CMI Level 5 Accredited Management and Leadership in Housing Programme

CMI Level 5 Accredited Management and Leadership in Housing Programme

Course Overview

The housing sector is operating in challenging times and faces numerous critical challenges in the coming years. Leaders and managers operating across the sector are endeavouring to motivate, encourage, develop, and support their teams to deliver outcomes in an increasingly demanding and complex environment.

Our Level 5 leadership and management programme has been designed for practicing or aspirational mid-level housing sector managers and leaders or more senior leaders who may previously have had limited opportunity to engage with formal leadership and management development training. Our modular programme blends the personal and professional development of the individual learner’s leadership style with a practical leadership and management toolkit designed to develop and motivate teams, deliver performance outcomes, and support individual, team, and organisational resilience during times of uncertainty and change.

Accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) this programme is delivered over three classroom days and is led by experienced leadership facilitators who bring the training to life with a wealth of real-world case studies and stories. To achieve the required learning hours for the qualification delegates will also attend two further half-day group coaching / action learning sessions. These sessions are designed to support individuals to practice, review and develop the taught skills in their operational environment ensuring that real change is made and organisational benefits realised.

The Level 5 Certificate is a 13-credit qualification with an anticipated Total Qualification Time of 130 hours. Learners have 24 months from their date of initial attendance on the taught phase of the programme to complete the assignments and attain the qualification.

The Agenda

10:00

Principles of Leadership and Management

The aim of day 1 of the programme is to develop managers’ understanding and awareness of ethical leadership and the impact of culture and values on leadership practice. We will examine a range of leadership models and the concept of empowerment, with consideration of techniques and methods for leading others.

Delegates will then explore the role of reflective practice as an essential management tool. By consciously analysing their own performance, decision making, and leadership and management skills (in different situational contexts) delegates will explore opportunities for their on-going personal and professional development journey.

10:00

Leading and Developing Effective Teams

Day 2 is designed to equip delegates with an in-depth understanding of the theoretical and practical approaches to leading and managing teams effectively.

Participants will explore group and team dynamics, identify the techniques used to monitor and manage individual and team performance, assess current and future capability and capacity requirements, and adopt approaches to respond to these.

Delegates will not only understand how to meet the challenge of leading individuals and teams, but they will also know how to support, motivate, and inspire team members to exceed expectations.

10:00

Leading Culture and Change

The aim of Day 3 is to explore the leader’s role in supporting, enabling, and delivering change in complex, fast-paced operating environments when staff are often experiencing change fatigue. Delegates will be able to evaluate types and reasons for change and be able to select and apply theoretical models for its management. We will explore the links between change, motivation, and team effectiveness, consider the links between effective stakeholder engagement and successful change and explore how leaders can develop change ready people.

11:00

Development Workshop 1

Approximately 6-8 weeks after the taught phase concludes learners will attend an initial 3-hour action learning / group coaching session which is designed to explore how the taught elements of the programme are impacting in the learner’s own context, spend time working as a collaborative group to explore and problem solve ongoing organisational challenges and reflect on delegates personal leadership development.

12:00

Development Workshop 2

Approximately 6-8 weeks later learners will attend the second 3-hour action learning / group coaching session. The session will allow further exploration of the how the taught elements are impacting in the learner’s own context, allow time for additional group problem solving and facilitate deeper reflective practice.
