Course Overview
Overview:
This programme has been designed specifically for existing and aspiring senior leaders operating across the healthcare sector. The design and delivery team include leadership development professionals with broad experience of working within the healthcare sector, both private and NHS.
The programme gives attendees the time and opportunity to undertake an in-depth exploration of the leader’s role in enabling their teams to face the challenges and maximise the opportunities being faced across the sector.
The programme explores mainstream and sector specific leadership and organisational models, frameworks, case studies and research and to maximise the individual learner’s development journey a person-centred coaching approach is adopted throughout.
Our experienced facilitator team will support participants to consider how the learning can deliver tangible positive outcomes on their return to the workplace. To support this innovative and pragmatic approach to the programme delivery participants will attend three 2.5-hour action learning / group coaching sessions which will be scheduled over an, approximately, 6-month period after the conclusion of the taught phase.
Participants will also receive two post-programme strategic leadership coaching sessions to embed their learning into professional practice and support their personal and professional development.
The programme is mapped to a CMI Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership.
Learning Outcomes:
- Explore the skills and behaviours of strategic leaders in the healthcare sector and beyond.
- Undertake in depth analysis of their own operating environment and use scenario planning and future scaping approaches to explore the next steps for healthcare.
- Investigate agile and innovative principles and the behaviours required for successful application.

- Apply a range of innovative strategy and diagnostic tools to shape organisational outcomes.

Agenda:
- Day 1- Problems -Day 1 will explore current organisational problems and challenges, horizon scan to identify critical drivers for change and begin to unravel the myth of digital transformation. We will then envision the future of healthcare through a facilitated future scaping exercise.
- Day 2- Paradigms -Day 2 pays attention to organisational strategy, regulation, and governance, applying a range of diagnostic tools to examine the roles these play in delivering next steps. We will then investigate the principles of agile and innovation before exploring red and blue ocean principles and deploying scenario planning to shape next steps.
- Day 3- Potential - Day 3 commences with application of a business transformation maturity model. We will then consider the required future culture before undertaking detailed exploration of the psychology and neuroscience of change and change leadership behaviours through the application of the NHS change model to support realisation of the future scenario.
- Action Learning / Group Coaching - 3 x 2.5-hour sessions - Participants will come together for three facilitated action learning / group coaching sessions once the taught element of the programme concludes. The first session will take place approximately 4-6 weeks after the taught phase with subsequent sessions scheduled at (approximately) 6-week intervals. Led by an experienced action-learning facilitator / group coach the sessions will allow participants to further explore and problem solve their operating environment, co-create solutions with their learning cohort, take a deep-dive into their own leadership philosophy and embed the learning with positive intent in their organisational setting.

Accreditation:
This qualification is mapped to a CMI accredited Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice.
Assessment:
This qualification is mapped to a CMI accredited Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership Practice. To gain the qualification, you must complete two assignments. You have 3 years to complete these assignments.
- Propose a business case, research design, and project management proposal before conducting and reporting on the findings of a strategic management project - To pass this unit learners will identify and undertake a strategic management project of their own choosing. Leaders will develop a business case, propose a research design to inform the project’s direction and recommend project management methods and tools to structure the delivery of the project. Leaders will report on project outcomes and reflect on the skills and behaviours which ultimately influence the success of the strategic management project.
- Reflective journal and Personal Development Plan - To pass this unit Leaders will critically reflect on the interrelationship between the skillset and mindset to develop as a strategic leader exploring their own personal, interpersonal and professional competencies and behaviours to lead strategically and deliver impact.
Accreditation Support:
Participants choosing to attain the CMI qualification will attend a 2-hour induction event which explains the process for attaining the qualification and the accreditation standards. They will be further supported by regular tutorial sessions, supporting resources and comprehensive formative and summative assessment and feedback processes.
