NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) is the part of the NHS that ensures that corporate functions run smoothly, efficiently and to a high standard. Set up by the Department of Health in 2005, it provides high-quality, value-for-money finance, procurement and employment services to other NHS organisations, so they can focus on delivering world-class patient care.
Around 40% of NHS organisations trust NHS SBS to manage at least one of their corporate functions. Every year, it processes millions of transactions, manages billions of pounds of NHS money and pays hundreds of thousands of NHS employees. NHS SBS has delivered over £400 million savings to the NHS and is on course to unlock a total of £1 billion by 2020.
