Stockport Without Abuse (originally Stockport Women’s Aid) began in the 1970s, inspired by the women’s liberation movement to address domestic violence. Founded in 1975, we opened the Borough’s first refuge for women and children.
Over the past 50 years, we have expanded to provide comprehensive services for men, women, children and young people, driven by local knowledge, lived experience and professional expertise.
Today, Stockport Without Abuse positively impacts the lives of around 4,500 people annually across Stockport through support, advice, signposting and awareness raising.
We believe that everyone has the right to live in safety and have a future without fear of domestic abuse. Our work focuses on prevention through education and awareness, protection and support for individuals and families affected by domestic abuse, and empowering victims to build resilience and regain lifelong independence.
We provide a range of targeted services across the spectrum of need, including support for adults, children, accommodation and health-based interventions.
