Wendy Lewis

Director of System Coordination and Flow
NHS Lancs and South Cumbria ICB

I am a nurse with 35 years experience in a variety of clinical, leadership, teaching and improvement roles. My improvement leadership career over the past 17 years has included roles at national, regional and local levels.

I completed a Masters in Leading Change in Healthcare in 2019 with a focus on understanding and improving flow through care systems. I also hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education and a Post Grad Certificate in Improvement Science.

For the past 10 years I have studied and tested the application of quality improvement methodologies to address challenges relating to flow across a variety of system level pathways including acute, mental health, cancer and long-term conditions.

Within the North West I led the design and delivery AQuA’s Experience and Engagement Programme, including the recruitment and development of a Lived Experience Panel. I am a passionate advocate for improving the quality of healthcare for patients, staff and communities within all care settings.

My current role as a strategic commissioner of flow (UEC, Ambulance services, intermediate care, discharge and EPRR) and director of operations for the ICB utilises all of this previous experience within very challenging operational and financial contexts.
