Mark will present how the in-house transport team supported a multidisciplinary effort to enhance pathology transport within the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust region. The project focused on two main objectives:
- Cost Reduction and Service Improvement:
- Assessing third-party spending with courier companies and taxis to potentially transfer some of these services to the in-house fleet, aiming to reduce costs and enhance service delivery.
- Optimisation of Specimen Collection:
- Optimizing and improving specimen collection from 40 GP practices in North Manchester to increase transport frequency and decrease specimen turnaround time at the laboratory.
By implementing a data and analytics function, the transport team was able to:
- Provide a detailed analysis of 3rd party transport activity
- Overlay 3rd party journeys on top of the in-house routes to identify quick wins
- Provide live route tracking.
- Measure the age of patient specimens.
- Deliver system-wide improvements that increased patient access to phlebotomy and improved patient diagnostic outcomes.
