Manchester Hospital School provides education for children and young people who are unable to attend their usual school due to medical or mental health conditions. The school delivers education across five hospital settings, operates a secondary day school, and provides home-based education, ensuring continuity of learning during periods of illness.

Recent data from NHS England indicates that 1 in 5 young people have a diagnosed mental health condition. In addition, evidence from the Children’s Commissioner for England and the Department for Education suggests that 30-40% of illness-related school absence may be linked to mental health, including anxiety, depression, and school avoidance.

Against this backdrop, the role of hospital education across the UK and Europe is both vital and transformative. These services ensure that no child’s education is limited by illness, with professionals committed to maintaining engagement, aspiration, and achievement for some of the most vulnerable learners.

The HOPE Congress (Hospital Organisation of Pedagogues in Europe) is the leading international forum for hospital and home education. The 2027 Congress will be held under the theme:

“The Right to Learn: Securing Equity for Pupils with Medical Needs”

This theme reflects the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, emphasising every child’s entitlement to education, regardless of circumstance.

The Congress will bring together 300–500 delegates from across Europe and beyond, hosted at The Midland Hotel, Manchester. The programme will include keynote speakers, panel discussions, and workshops led by experts in education, healthcare, and children’s rights. Contributors from the journal Continuity in Education will present cutting-edge research, alongside representatives from national and international organisations working across education, health, and social care sectors.

The previous Congress, held in Dublin in 2025, demonstrated the lasting impact of this event. As one delegate reflected:

“Bringing back the acquired knowledge… ideas are taking shape, and the experience gained is being carried into our daily work.”

In collaboration with Marketing Manchester, we are ensuring that delegates experience not only a high-quality professional programme but also the rich cultural and social offer of Manchester—a city renowned for innovation, resilience, and social impact.

Sponsorship Opportunities:

We are now seeking corporate partners and sponsors to support this important international event.

Sponsorship offers a unique opportunity to:

●      Align your organisation with a high-impact social cause.

●      Demonstrate commitment to children’s wellbeing, education, and inclusion.

●      Engage with an international network of professionals and decision-makers.

●      Enhance your organisation’s visibility at a prestigious European Congress.

By supporting the HOPE Congress, you will be contributing to a shared mission: ensuring that children and young people with medical needs are not disadvantaged in their education.
