The UK currently ranks in the top 5 of the Global Innovation Index. As we enter the Fourth Industrial Revolution, an era in which exponential growth in data, sensing technologies, cyber-physical systems and analytic techniques will blur boundaries between the physical and digital world, and create hyper-connectivity on a global scale, Interconnection will be crucial if Britain is to truly embrace Industry 4.0

Key pilots and trends that we will be discussing at this year’s congress include:
AI, connected supply chains, sensor technologies and automation: Digital technologies are helping public sector bodies become more agile and better equipped to identify opportunities and respond quickly to rapidly changing consumer demands, supplier conditions and tech innovations.
Building a digital skills system: Training will be a key technique that the public sector can use to attract and retain people with the right skills. Tech-Driven change will create higher-level roles which are likely to attract higher wages, benefitting those employees who are able to build on their skill-sets to fill these new positions.
The Made Smarter Pilot: The Made Smarter Pilot is a programme backed by the UK Government and world-renowned businesses, its aim is to connect makers with innovative technology that can help drive digital transformation across Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Liverpool City Regions. Learnings from this pilot will lay foundations for the programme to be rolled out across the UK in the future.
The National Digital Policing Strategy 2020-2030: Policing in the UK sets the standard for law enforcement agencies across the globe. New technologies and technical skills shortages have put our service under pressure. However, technologies that already exist or can be developed also present our service with opportunities to modernise, become more efficient and better equip and enable our officers. The strategy has been developed to adhere to the challenges the police force is facing but ultimately for the benefit of the public.
Digital Inclusion Strategy for Cornwall: This strategy outlines why digital inclusion is an issue for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and how the public and private sectors can work together across the region, the strategy extends to both residents and organisations and seeks to set out key principles and actions for relevant organisations in Cornwall and beyond to adopt in order to help tackle the recognised digital exclusion barriers. There are six areas to focus on digital literacy and skills, accessibility, affordability, motivation, trust and confidence.
