AXREM, the UK trade association representing suppliers of diagnostic medical imaging, radiotherapy, healthcare IT and care equipment, this week facilitated a visit to Medispace in Warrington, bringing together industry expertise and political engagement to highlight the importance of flexible diagnostic capacity across the NHS.
Medispace, an AXREM member, specialises in fully equipped mobile and modular MRI and CT units with associated services of staffing and reporting. These solutions provide vital additional capacity for hospitals undergoing renovation or experiencing increased demand, ensuring services remain operational and helping to reduce patient waiting times.
As part of the visit, AXREM also coordinated a meeting with Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols, enabling a constructive two-way discussion on both local and national healthcare priorities. Topics covered included Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs), Value Based Procurement, AXREM’s position on the 10‑Year Plan and Cancer Plan, the role of Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and wider challenges and opportunities across the diagnostic landscape.
Following the meeting, AXREM Chief Executive Officer, travelled to Cheshire to see a Medispace unit in operation. The visit provided valuable insight into how these high‑quality clinical environments can be deployed almost anywhere in the community, offering patients convenient access to essential diagnostic services.
Speaking about the visit, AXREM Chief Executive Officer, Sally Edgington emphasised the importance of engaging directly with members and policymakers:
“Days like today are incredibly valuable. Seeing our members’ products and services in action reinforces the real impact they have on patient care. Facilitating conversations between industry and policymakers is central to AXREM’s mission, ensuring that innovation, capacity and patient outcomes remain at the forefront of national planning.”
Medispace Chief Executive Officer, Sander de Mooij said after the visit: “We were delighted to welcome AXREM and Charlotte Nichols MP to our Warrington site today. It’s incredibly valuable to showcase how our mobile and modular MRI and CT solutions support hospitals in maintaining continuity of care, especially during periods of renovation or increased demand. Our units are designed to be flexible, high‑quality clinical environments that can be deployed quickly and positioned almost anywhere in the community.
The conversation today highlighted the importance of collaboration between industry, policymakers and the NHS to ensure patients receive timely access to diagnostic services. We appreciate AXREM facilitating this visit and look forward to continuing to work together to support the evolving needs of healthcare providers across the UK.”
AXREM looks forward to continuing discussions with Charlotte Nichols MP and supporting further collaboration across the sector with our members.
