AXREM, the UK trade association representing suppliers of diagnostic medical imaging, radiotherapy, healthcare IT, AI and care equipment, today launched its Teleradiology Leaflet during an AXREMled session at the Convenzis RadVision 2026 Conference in Manchester. The session, delivered by members of the AXREM Teleradiology Working Group, including Dr Tim Taylor, Daniel Sourial and Dr Farzana Rahman highlighted the vital role teleradiology plays in strengthening NHS diagnostic services, with discussion supported by sector insights such as over 95% of NHS Trusts using teleradiology and more than 5 million scans reported annually through UK providers.
The leaflet "Teleradiology: A Vital Partner in Modern NHS Care” highlights how teleradiology supports faster diagnosis, improves outcomes, strengthens workforce wellbeing, and enhances service resilience amid rising imaging demand and ongoing staffing pressures.
Driving Modern, PatientCentred Diagnostic Care
Teleradiology provides timely, equitable access to radiology reporting across the NHS by enabling faster turnaround times, access to specialist expertise, 7day and outofhours reporting, reduced workforce strain, and support in managing backlogs across urgent and elective pathways.
Supporting NHS Strategy and Diagnostic Recovery
The leaflet emphasises that teleradiology complements—not replaces—NHS radiology teams, aligning with priorities such as patientcentred care, workforce wellbeing, digital transformation, sustainability, and the NHS Long Term Plan. It also stresses the importance of secure datasharing, cloudbased workflows, and seamless RIS/PACS integration.
Collaboration and Early Planning
AXREM’s Teleradiology Working Group calls for more consistent procurement, earlier capacity planning, and better visibility of upcoming pressures. The leaflet encourages a shift from lastminute implementation to proactive, collaborative planning that strengthens resilience and reduces risk.
Voices From the Frontline
Clinical users highlight how teleradiology expands equitable reporting capacity, supports multidisciplinary teams, strengthens ICSwide collaboration, and ensures patients receive timely, highqualitydiagnostics wherever they live.
AXREM’s Commitment
Through this launch, AXREM reaffirms its commitment to supporting the NHS in delivering futureproof, digitally enabled diagnostic services. The association invites NHS colleagues, policymakers, suppliers, and clinical leaders to work with the Teleradiology Working Group to shape the next phase of imaging transformation.
Sally Edgington, AXREM CEO said “AXREM’s new teleradiology leaflet is a timely and important contribution to the future of diagnostic care in the NHS. As imaging demand continues to rise and workforce pressures persist, it’s essential that we recognise teleradiology not as a contingency measure, but as a strategic partner in delivering safe, equitable and efficient reporting capacity. The emphasis on collaboration, early planning and seamless digital integration reflects exactly what is needed to build resilient services that support both clinicians and patients. By bringing together industry expertise and frontline insight, AXREM is helping to shape a modern diagnostic ecosystem where technology, workforce wellbeing and patient‑centred care go hand in hand.”
