Over 2 Million Steps Walked and Over £3,789 Raised
Over 150 participants from 22 AXREM member companies took part in AXREM’s Millions Step Challenge, championing wellbeing, community, and charitable impact.
AXREM’s Inaugural Millions Step Challenge took place last week with extraordinary energy and participation, as over 150 individuals from 22 member companies laced up their walking shoes and collectively walked more than 2 million steps in one day, doubling the original target of 1 million.
The challenge, designed to promote physical wellbeing and sector-wide camaraderie, culminated in a scenic group walk through the Cotswolds, where over 20 members joined forces to cover more than 5 miles together. The walk was made even more meaningful by the presence of a representative from Action for Children, highlighting the charitable spirit at the heart of the initiative.
Among the many enthusiastic participants, one standout contributor stole the show: Irina Wade from Qure.ai, who clocked over an incredible 72,000 steps in a single day, earning well-deserved recognition as our Star of the Challenge.
The event wasn’t just a physical triumph, it was a philanthropic one too. The challenge has so far raised over £3,789, bringing AXREM’s Charity of the Year total to an inspiring £8,215. These funds will help support vital work by Action for Children, making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable young people across the UK.
AXREM Chief Executive Officer Sally Edgington said:
"This challenge was more than just a step count, it was a celebration of community, wellbeing, and purpose. Seeing our members come together, support one another, and exceed expectations was truly inspiring. We’re proud to walk alongside organisations like Action for Children and grateful to every participant who made this a success."
The Millions Step Challenge will become an annual event and will continue to grow as a symbol of AXREM’s commitment to member wellbeing, sector unity, and social responsibility. Plans are already underway to make next year’s event even bigger.
AXREM Chairman, Huw Shurmer said:
“The Millions Step Challenge is a shining example of what makes AXREM so special, our ability to come together across companies, roles, and regions to support one another and make a real difference. Walking over 2 million steps and raising more than £3,789 for Action for Children is a phenomenal achievement, and it reflects the heart and commitment of our members. I’m especially proud of the camaraderie shown during the Cotswolds walk and I was inspired by individuals like Irina Wade, whose dedication truly stood out. This challenge not only promotes wellbeing, but also strengthens the bonds that make our sector resilient, compassionate, and forward-thinking."

Note:
AXREM members supply the majority of diagnostic medical imaging and radiotherapy equipment installed in UK hospitals. In doing so, our member companies and their employees work side by side with Radiologists, Radiographers, Practitioners, Oncologists and a wide range of healthcare professionals in delivering healthcare to patients using our technologies.
Our members therefore have unique knowledge, experience and insight into the workflow and challenges faced by healthcare professionals on a day-to-day basis, which enables us to develop and offer innovative solutions to improve the speed and quality of diagnostic procedures and treatments with our ultimate aim of improving patient care.
Although our members operate in a highly competitive commercial environment and in strict conformity with UK laws and regulations, certain issues such as this require focus and resolution on an industry-wide basis.

Action For Children is a leading UK Children's charity. We’ve been helping children for more than 150 years. Today, we run 426 services in local communities across the UK, in schools and online.
We protect and support children and young people. We do this by providing practical and emotional care and support. We make sure their voices are heard. And we campaign to bring lasting improvements to their lives.
We take action in three ways.
Intervention. Anyone can get trapped in poverty, abuse or violence. When we spot problems, we take action early. We step in to help children, young people and families before things get worse.
Prevention. We give young people the support they need to grow up safe and happy. Projects like The Blues Programme teach important life skills and help to build resilience. It’s simple and it works.
Advocacy. Children don’t have a say in many things that affect their lives. We listen to what they want. We take their concerns to the government. And we campaign for better support and resources.
