The Sleep Apnoea Trust: The independent patient voice

The Trust, originally founded in 1996, works to improve the lives of sleep apnoea patients, their partners and their families by provision of education, advocacy, raising awareness of Sleep Apnoea, and assisting in research and development. One important aspect of the Trust is the e-mail helpline which is available to anyone. In addition, the Trust provides a wealth of information on its website from clinical (what is sleep apnoea, diagnosis, and treatment as well as frequently asked questions) to the more practical aspects of the condition such as driving and travel. The Trust also provides leaflets which are available both for patients to download and for healthcare professionals to order for their clinics. The suite of leaflets includes titles such as ‘What is obstructive sleep apnoea’, ‘Getting started with your CPAP – dealing with claustrophobia and panic attacks’, ‘Living with your CPAP’, ‘Snoring’, ‘Weight loss’, and ‘Hospital admissions’.
