Anna Young is an accomplished portfolio nurse with extensive experience spanning clinical practice, strategic leadership, education, and research. Currently serving as the Primary Care Training Programme Director and Learning & Development Lead for the Northeast and Yorkshire regional faculty of advancing practice at NHS England, Anna Young has demonstrated a proven ability to create new workstreams and drive innovation using research and change models.
With a career marked by compassionate leadership and a commitment to advancing the nursing profession, Anna Young has led initiatives that significantly increased the number and confidence of primary care nurses in non-medical prescribing. Anna Young is recognised for fostering collaboration with key stakeholders—including Integrated Care Systems, Chief Nursing Officers, and national organisations—to enhance governance, quality, and professional development across the nursing workforce.
A champion for nurse representation, Anna Young has advocated for nurses on decision-making boards and committees at local, regional, and national levels. Anna Young has also contributed to policy development, co-creating frameworks for non-medical prescribing and advancing practice, and has played a pivotal role in embedding research into clinical settings.
In addition to leadership roles, Anna Young maintains active clinical practice and has a strong track record in research, including leading national research repository programs and developing tools to integrate research into everyday nursing. Anna Young is a speaker at national and international conferences and has published on nursing leadership, research, and professional development.
Holding a BA (Hons) in Nursing Studies, a Master’s in Advancing Practice (Primary Care), and currently pursuing a Level 5 Coaching Apprenticeship, Anna Young was honoured as a Queen’s Nurse in 2023. Anna Young is deeply committed to improving patient care, supporting the nursing workforce, and shaping the future of healthcare through strategic innovation and advocacy.
