Debra Padgett, MSc, FIBMS, CSci, FRCPath (Hons), FAHCS (Hons)

Debra Padgett is Clinical Pathology Service Manager at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. A Chartered Scientist with over 24 years in NHS laboratories, she has led major transformation programmes to improve service quality, workforce development, and innovation.

In her current role as NENC Pathology Network Operational Lead, she has guided the network to maturity under the NHSE matrix and integrated digital pathology to streamline workflows and enhance diagnostics.

As IBMS President (2022–2024) and long-standing Council member, Debra championed excellence in pathology, working with NHS England, RCPath, and ALM on strategic initiatives, including digital pathology adoption and advanced practice role expansion.

Debra also serves as Lead Healthcare Scientist for Northumbria, a BSI ISO 15189 committee member, and STEM ambassador, continuing to drive sustainable, high-quality pathology services that meet the evolving needs of the NHS and patients.
