Dr Clare Winter

Clare is a Chartered Environmentalist with almost 20 years’ environmental sustainability experience. This has ranged from private sector environmental consultancy roles to working at Northumbria Police leading on their environmental compliance and initial sustainability journey. She is currently the Head of Sustainability at Northumbria Healthcare, providing strategic leadership in the pursuit of net zero across the Trust.

Clare moved into the NHS in 2013, and for over 8 years was the Environmental & Sustainability lead at North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.   As a result of the level of sustained carbon savings achieved at the Trust with a proactive Invest to Save programme of work which Clare led, the Trust won several national awards.

Before moving to Northumbria Healthcare, Clare spent 15 months in the regional Greener NHS funded sustainability role in the North East & North Cumbria. Working with the 11 provider trusts across the region to enable faster and more efficient delivery of ICS Green Plan & Net Zero projects.

Clare is also a mentor for professionals wanting to progress to full membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and mentors for the Girls’ Network.
