Karen Brazier

Professional Advisor for Healthcare Science

Karen Brazier CSci is a Chartered Scientist, HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist and Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science, with over 20 years’ experience leading within healthcare science.  She currently advises Scottish Government on national policy, workforce strategy, and service transformation.

In 2024, Karen was honoured as Scotland’s Healthcare Scientist of the Year.  She has a strong track record of inclusive, collaborative leadership, working across organisational and professional boundaries to strengthen clinical governance, quality improvement, and service innovation.  She has a particular interested in widening engagement with the healthcare science community and in supporting the translation of research into real-world practice, aligned to Scotland’s health priorities.

Karen also serves as Vice Chair of the IBMS Clinical Chemistry Advisory Panel and as Co-Chair of the Registration Authority within the Science Council, contributing to the advancement of professional standards.
