Markus Gwiggner PhD MRCP

Dr Markus Gwiggner is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease at University Hospital Southampton (UHS). A former lead of the gastroenterology department, he has now focused his work on digital healthcare and pathway transformation. As Clinical Lead for the UHS digital patient platform “My Medical Record” and Associate CCIO, he has driven major innovations in GI care delivery. Dr Gwiggner has secured NHS England grants for calprotectin point-of-care testing with EHR integration and for transforming IBD outpatients through a digital PIFU model. He has developed an electronic referral triage tool enabling direct-to-test pathways/A&G pathways in gastroenterology, significantly reducing patient waiting times at UHS.
