Penny Banerjee

Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist

Dr Penny Banerjee graduated with an MBBS from the University of Newcastle in 1988. She worked briefly in other medical specialities before deciding on a career in psychiatry. She completed her higher forensic psychiatric training in the East Midlands and started her first consultant position in a medium secure personality disorder service in 2004. Whilst working in this position she continued to develop her interest in dynamic psychotherapy, qualifying as a forensic psychotherapist in 2020. In 2020 she moved to work the personality disorder service at Rampton Hospital where she is currently working. Research interests include developing and evaluating treatment for people with personality disorder, including evaluation of therapeutic interventions delivered by service users. More recently she has become involved in developing and evaluating forensic psychotherapy supervision for higher trainees in forensic psychiatry within Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
