Sara Brogden

I am currently a Lead Nurse Endoscopist and Clinical Nurse Specialist at University College London Hospital, a position I have held since March 2015. With over 30 years of experience in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, I bring a wealth of clinical expertise, leadership, and a strong commitment to education and service development.

Throughout my career, I have worked across a wide range of areas, including Surgery and Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer, enabling me to develop extensive specialist knowledge. I have also held the role of Endoscopy Unit Manager, where I significantly strengthened my communication, leadership, and time management skills.

I qualified as a Nurse Endoscopist in 2011 while working at The Royal Free Hospital London. I specialise in Upper GI Endoscopy, Barrett’s Surveillance, and Trans nasal Endoscopy within an outpatient setting. In addition, I lead a Nurse-Led 2ww Upper GI Clinic, managing patients with dysphagia, dyspepsia, and Barrett’s oesophagus.

I hold a BSc in Gastroenterology (Upper) from the University of Hull and currently lead a team of Clinical  Endoscopists. My role includes delivering and developing services such as Barrett’s surveillance, trans nasal endoscopy, and 2-week-wait cancer pathways for both upper and lower GI conditions. I am actively involved in assessment clinics, ensuring timely investigation and patient-centred care.

Education and training are central to my role. I have delivered teaching both nationally and internationally to healthcare professionals and industry partners, most recently focusing on Transnasal Endoscopy and Barrett’s surveillance. I am passionate about developing others and equipping staff with the skills and knowledge required to deliver high-quality care.
