Apprenticeships and your Organisation
How do you use your levy, and what are your future plans?
BPP, the UK’s leading professional apprenticeship training provider specialist in apprenticeships has been working in partnership with the NHS to make it an employer of choice by developing the specialist skills needed to deliver high quality and safe care to patients. BPP’s specially commissioned research means that they understand the challenges faced by people leaders in the NHS – and how to address them.
Recently BPP, in collaboration with Health Education England, launched their 2022 Apprenticeship Levy Study which was an extension of the 2018 study. Over 100 NHS Trusts participated. Please join us while we discuss the key findings on the opportunities and challenges NHS Trusts are presented with by utilising the Apprenticeship Levy and how this compares to the first survey in 2018. You will hear from apprenticeship experts from within the NHS and share best practise through listening to apprenticeship case studies.

Results Analysis of the BPP Apprenticeship Levy Study 2023
In 2018 BPP and Health Education England collaborated on an apprenticeship levy study that asked NHS Trusts to comment on their use of the levy, how they planned to use the levy in the future, and the apprenticeship frameworks and standards they planned to use. A follow up study was conducted in 2022 asking representatives of trusts to reflect on the last four years and comment on the ways that trusts have used the Apprenticeship Levy, the standards they use now, and the successes and challenges they’ve experienced. We have also asked trusts, once again, to make predictions about apprenticeship usage and spend in the future. David Palmer from BPP and Jane Hadfield will be revealing the analysis of the study in this session.
Widening diversity case study with Great Ormond Street Hospital
Respondents to the 2022 were very positive about the power of apprenticeships to increase diversity, inclusion, and equality in the workforce. We take a look at Great Ormond Street Hospital and how they use apprenticeships as a tool to widen diversity in their workforce.
Bridging the digital skills gap
In the 2022 study, we asked respondents about their digital skills gap. BPP have pulled together a panel of experts to discuss what are the biggest skills gaps in the market and comparatively within the NHS. We will provide useful tips on how to identify and address the digital skills gaps within your organisation.
The way forward
To reflect on the key findings from the 2022 study, Jane Hadfield from Health Education England will be discussing the contribution of apprenticeships to long term workforce planning.
