In February 2021, further updates and changes were made to the NHS Patient Safety Strategy. The most significant strategy update is the new commitment to address patient safety inequalities, with a new objective added to the safety system strand of the strategy.

The NHS plans to meet the needs of specific vulnerable groups in the improvement strand – notably the objectives to address the safety issues faced by older people and people with a learning disability.
