Current Landscape and Challenges
Wales has made steady progress in strengthening digital foundations across health and care, supported by a nationally coordinated approach. However, variation in digital maturity remains, and the system faces ongoing pressure to deliver consistency, resilience and value in a challenging financial environment. Workforce engagement, cyber security and long term sustainability are increasingly prominent concerns.
At the same time, Wales is preparing for a major next step, the convergence toward a single national EHR. This ambition requires careful preparation, strong governance and a clear understanding of what has worked and what has not to date. Embedding digital change into everyday care, rather than treating it as a programme, is a key leadership challenge.

As the final EHR summit of the year, this event provides a timely opportunity for reflection and forward planning. 2026 is a foundational year for setting Wales on a path toward national EHR convergence by 2030. A successful EHR implementation depends on more than the technology it requires patient safety to be considered throughout the entire transformation journey. In this practical Skills Clinic, We will explore how clinical risk associated with data can be identified and managed from procurement and system design through to implementation, go-live and beyond.
Drawing on their experience in clinical safety and serious incident investigation, they will examine how organisations can strengthen accountability, build workforce capability and embed a proactive safety culture.
