The Outpatient Transformation Conference North 2023

The Convenzis Outpatient Transformation Conference provides secondary care leaders with some direction and insight into the NHS Outpatient Transformation Programme. The event will provide high value, policy led presentations from sector-leading experts, meet the supplier sessions, networking opportunities and interactive Q&A.

“Outpatient services currently cause a good deal of inconvenience to patients and sometimes fail to provide care that is as good as it could be. We would therefore welcome a considered re-think of how they are delivered…” The Patients Association

The Covid-19 outbreak has provided a springboard for innovation and technology advancements across the NHS Estate, from electronic records and referrals to devices that patients can wear to help to track their health. Technology is helping transform the way hospitals and community services care for patients.

The number of outpatient visits in England has doubled to 94 million in the past decade; 20 per cent of potential appointments are cancelled or reported as did not attend, costs have spiralled to £8 billion per year and appointments generate 4,700 million kg of carbon emissions.

Following the Covid outbreak, the NHS Long Term Plan ambition to avoid unnecessary face to face outpatient attendances has become an urgent imperative, these targets include:

Removing the need for up to a third of hospital outpatient attendances a year by 2023/24

Avoiding up to £1.1bn of additional expenditure.

And ensuring all patients can access digital outpatient care.

If you are interested in the redesign and restructure of NHS Outpatient services and would like a complimentary pass, please get in touch today to reserve your place.

Embedding behaviour change in the outpatient journey (Confirmed)

Richard Whittington
Deputy Director – Delivery and Implementation, Outpatient Recovery and Transformation Programme
NHS England

We have a significant mountain to climb in reducing the number of outpatient appointments and supporting work on elective recovery to reducing waiting times.

So far our work on outpatient transformation has largely focused on specific in-pathway initiatives, for example PIFU, referral optimisation, advice & guidance etc. Now we have the opportunity to make real and long-lasting impact by exploring behaviour change through the outpatient journey, from referral to discharge.

This presentation will be informed by the intense period of work taking place in April around the equity of access to outpatient services, from the perspective of the profession as well as patients.

It will also cover the progress of the behaviour insight work to date, looking at the end-to-end pathway of three specialties with a view to identifying what happens and why it happens and how real change can be made as a result.

Outpatients Transformation and automation- how to deliver personalised care whilst delivering transformation.

Paul Boland
Healthcare Director
EBO.ai

The case for outpatients transformation is clear- but how do we ensure we retain the human touch when digitalising outpatients? Can we achieve the dual goals of increased efficiency AND improved patient experience?

This session will explore the benefits of patient-facing automation using conversational-AI and its inherent benefits over other digital solutions. It will look at real-life examples of where automation is already being used in the NHS to deliver outpatients bookings,  patient validation and much more.
