Current Landscape and Challenges

Building on the government’s 10-Year Health Plan ("Fit for the Future"), the NHS is committing to three radical shifts—hospital to community, analogue to digital, and sickness to prevention—placing interoperability and digital transformation centre stage

A national Single Patient Record, to be rolled out via the NHS App by 2028, promises to eliminate repetitive data capture, enhance cyber-secure access, and empower patients with transparent control.

Despite these ambitions, significant hurdles remain: fragmented legacy systems, uneven digital maturity, cybersecurity concerns, and digital inclusion gaps, particularly among vulnerable or digitally excluded populations. This summit will explore how Trusts can navigate these barriers and accelerate progress.

Timeliness of the Event

As the NHS pivots to a digital-first model, driven by a £29 billion investment and legislation that elevates digital tools to national critical infrastructure, this summit is perfectly timed.

With trusts preparing to operationalise Single Sign-On, AI scribes, and integrated communication platforms—aimed at reducing outpatient load and streamlining patient journeys—now is the moment to synchronise systems and strategies

Key Subjects:

  • 10-Year Health Plan priorities: analogue → digital, with Single Patient Record by 2028.
  • Implementation of Single Patient Record / NHS App enhancements.
  • Advanced EPR deployments & legacy system integration.
  • Regulatory and financial backing for digital transformation.
  • Cybersecurity and patient data governance.
  • Human factors & digital inclusion.
  • Clinical engagement across pathways.
  • Empowering integrated care through shared care records.

Why Attend?

  • Engage with NHS Digital Leadership: hear from those steering delivery of the 10-Year Plan and Single Patient Record strategy.
  • Gain Practical Insights: dive into workshops and role plays on interoperability, cyber resilience, and patient‑centred design.
  • Prepare for Regulatory Shifts: understand new legislation framing digital health tools as national critical infrastructure.

Fireside Interview

Mr David Hancock
Director and Chair
INTEROPen

In this upcoming fireside chat, we’ll explore why interoperability challenges in health and social care go beyond technology. Expect a candid discussion on policy, procurement, and practical solutions:

  • Interoperability is a social problem, not a technical one
  • Mandating standards alone won’t solve it
  • Standard APIs are key to improving procurement across NHS and Social Care
