Case Study - Charkos

In today’s rapidly changing healthcare landscape, developing an effective workforce strategy is more crucial than ever. Using the metaphor of a diver navigating the vast blue ocean, this session will explore the importance of avoiding the pitfalls of a free dive—unplanned, unprepared, and unsustainable approaches to workforce management. 

Our session will:

• Discuss the critical role of digital interfaces in shaping modern workforce strategies and enhancing productivity.
• Explain why traditional training methods are insufficient and advocate for mid-term stable workforce strategies that ensure sustainability and adaptability.
• Present innovative solutions from Charkos, showcasing how our approaches address these challenges effectively for the betterment of clinicians and Trusts.

The NHS Long-Term Workforce Plan has three priority areas all of which relate to skills.

• Train - increasing education opportunities including delivering more trained nurses
• Retain - through better supporting the development of individuals throughout their careers and  
• Reform - building broader teams with flexible skills

Apprenticeships are a workforce planning strategy that can support all three agendas; it’s the responsibility of NHS Employers and training providers to work together to further expand apprenticeship provision to aim to train 1 in 6 NHS clinical staff. This session, delivered by BPP along with one of their Partners, the University Hospital Southampton, will explore how the NHS can work towards achieving the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan through the provision of nursing apprenticeship pathways.

Case Study - Xytal

Xytal has expertise in healthcare QI and process improvement, and applies these principles when working with NHS leaders to maximise personal and professional efficiency and impact through leadership development. This case study illustrates a common challenge for leaders and how utilising specific coaching tools can facilitate insight and promote positive change.

The NHS Business Services Authority is leading the ESR Transformation Programme to deliver a brand-new, future NHS workforce solution that will build upon the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) system.

Leigh Chapman will discuss how the programme is putting users at the heart of the design of the new solution. Leigh will share insight on how the programme is working collaboratively with delivery partners to support the timely delivery of the programme’s critical external dependencies, to enable true transformation of the way people services are delivered and received within the NHS, across England and Wales.

Case Study - Workday

As workforce resources become ever more constrained, HR must focus on driving efficiency and automation in HR operations while optimising strategic talent programmes to attract, develop, deploy & retain the best talent. Hear Workday’s vision on how HR, harnessing the latest technology including AI, can embrace new ways of working and navigate a resource constrained future to create a sustainable workforce. We will also share Workday’s latest research into employee engagement and burnout, how you can measure it and the potential implications for the NHS.
